Pizza Pizza franchise announces market share growth

Pizza Pizza reaches new heights in Ontario with market share topping 50 percent

December 11, 2008 (Toronto) –According to the latest industry report from NPD Group, the industry standard of measurement for the quick service restaurant industry, Pizza Pizza Limited, Canada’s largest pizza chain, has grown its market share in numerous categories including total traffic and sales for the one-year period ending August 2008, and in the last quarter of that same time span.

“All of our indicators reveal a market share that is consistently growing,” said Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza Pizza. “During the three-month period from June to August, Pizza Pizza’s market share in Ontario’s pizza segment was 50% from a dollar standpoint while our share of total traffic exceeded 52%, well ahead of US-based companies and other competitors.”

Pizza Pizza attributes the strong performance to a growing appreciation among Canadian consumers for healthier alternatives, expanded menu choices and the overall convenience of pizza, combined with sustained organic growth in regions like Quebec and Alberta as well as expansion in its non-traditional venues.

“Since the company’s inception in 1967, Pizza Pizza has focused on strategies directly tied to enhancing the customer experience, which has led us to where we are today,” said Curt Feltner, Chief Financial Officer for Pizza Pizza.

Recent filings issued by Pizza Pizza Royalty Income Fund, the income trust that owns the trademarks and trade names used by Pizza Pizza,  highlighted positive results for the quarter ending September 30, which included same store sales growth of 2.2% and growth of 3.6% in pre-tax earnings per unit.
