BARRIE - Ribs and chicken and brisket oh my! The south has invaded Barrie with smokers, sauces and sizzling food as Woody’s Bar-B-Q officially opened its doors on Victoria Street Monday. The 30-year-old restaurant chain is based in Jacksonville, Florida, and serves up authentic southern-style barbecue.

Barrie franchise owner Ian Wiber, the former head golf pro at Horseshoe Resort, decided to switch career paths and get into the restaurant business.

“We love Barrie, we didn’t want to relocate, so we looked for something Barrie didn’t have,” Wiber said. “Woody’s is going to be a great fit for this area.”

Wiber admits his favourite menu item is the Texas beef brisket. “We smoke it for 12 to 14 hours,” he said. “It’s top notch barbecue.”

Canadian Master Franchise owner Dan Masters said everything on the menu is great, but he said the baby back ribs are not to be missed.

“We’ve got smoked turkey, chicken, and sausages. We even have smoked prime rib,” he said.

Woody’s Bar-B-Q is at 11 Victoria St.
