Strong Growth in Local Home Medical Equipment Market Prompts MEDIchair Guelph to Expand

November 19, 2007 - Guelph, ON – It’s been an amazing year,” says David Parton owner of MEDIchair Guelph. “For us, the HME business has never been stronger. Since the beginning of the year, we have noticed a substantial surge in the demand for HME products and services. Some of that can be attributed to Guelph’s healthy economy and an aging population of baby boomers that are demanding more home medical equipment than ever before. Other local HME competitors also closed their doors and we have absorbed some of that business.”

Parton was quick to point out that even before the increase in demand for HME products in the Guelph area, he had made the business decision to be more proactive in expanding his range of products and services. “We have always had a great reputation in Guelph. However, you can’t stand still. You have to keep improving and adapting to market forces. We are constantly looking for opportunities to improve our business operations. Recent examples include hiring experienced staff; adding new product lines; purchasing more service vehicles and expanding our in-home service capabilities. We have even gone as far as to secure the services of skilled subcontractors to help us with both residential and commercial installations of equipment. So, when the surge in new business started to happen, we were ready,” explains Parton.

The real bonus occurred when 1400 square feet of retail space adjacent to MEDIchair Guelph became available. “The business next to us left and we pounced at the opportunity to expand our store. The timing was perfect.”

Parton quickly transformed most of the new retail space into an expanded showroom that now includes lifting devices, hospital beds in a patient room scenario, rehab products, fitting room for physiotherapists and adequate space to test drive, scooters, wheelchairs and walkers. “Customers like our new space,” says Parton.

“During in-store feedback we learned that they truly enjoy the brighter and roomier store design. One of our on-going objectives is to enhance our customer shopping experience, and that has been made easier with our expanded space.”

Parton also noted that he is passionate about continuing to improve the customer buying experience and enhancing the product and service offerings of MEDIchair Guelph as the company continues to grow.
