Operating from her home, Cathy Morse, a 20 year veteran of the interior design/home improvement industry, has enjoyed the freedom and fun connected with her business. Her experience, plus product and industry knowledge, as well as her own enthusiasm, have been her true motivators. Often working by referral only, Cathy became quite successful over the years.

Selling window coverings quickly became a favorite part of Cathy’s home-interior business as she set out to meet the challenges of a rapidly growing market - $9 Billion annually and still growing! She soon realized that the prospects were limitless and that the earnings were substantial.

Through her own hands-on experience over the years, Cathy has learned some beneficial “tricks of the trade.” She often thought that her knowledge and expertise could be a benefit to those who are seeking the same passion: a home-based business that offers flexibility and the potential for a very lucrative income!

BeTheBoss - Tell us about the Made in the Shade concept.

Cathy Morse - Made in the Shade Blinds and More - the concept is simple: For a one-time fee, we provide all the training, resources and tools necessary to own and operate your own home-based, window covering business with minimal overhead and no monthly franchise fees or royalties

BTB - How and when did you become involved with Made in the Shade?

CM - I entered the window covering industry in 1994 and began marketing the dealership concept in 2004

BTB - What was your background prior to joining Made in the Shade?

CM - I was a regional manager for Estee Lauder cosmetics and a Middle School Science teacher! I also assisted my husband in our flooring business since 1981. Home interiors has always been a strong passion of mine.

BTB - What are some of the advantages in being a Made in the Shade franchisee?

CM – Some of the advantages are:

  • flexibility
  • financial freedom
  • low start up cost
  • deepest industry discounts available
  • proven business model
  • large protected territory
  • ongoing sales and marketing support
  • custom web site, business cards, brochures and business templates
  • advantage of using the "as seen on Extreme Makeover Home Edition" logo in our marketing

BTB - Tell us a little about the Window Covering Market?

CM – The window covering market is a $9 billion industry and growing! Basically recession-proof because of market sectors to whom we target

BTB - What are some of the greatest lessons you’ve learned in growing this franchise?

CM - Always look for a win-win fit - not just someone who has some cash to invest. Make sure they fit the profile of an entrepreneur - teachable, willing to work hard, self-disciplined, learn the principle of seedtime and harvest; always repackaging and reinventing to avoid becoming stale. Surround yourself by positive, motivated people who support you! Differentiate yourself from your competition by daring to be creative!

BTB - Do you have a mentor and is their someone you use for inspiration?

CM - I really like Jeffrey Gitomer...he has some amazing advice and motivational support for those who are self-employed in sales.

BTB - In your opinion, why do you think that Made in the Shade would be a great opportunity for someone?

CM - If you have always dreamed about being your own boss, spending more time with your family, having flexible hours, controlling your own financial destiny and enjoying what you do every day in an exciting industry - all at an affordable start up cost - this is the opportunity for you!

We give so much for a small investment and offer ongoing support without any ongoing fees. It's the perfect business and career opportunity in a flourishing industry!
