Pizza Pizza celebrates National Pizza Month by raising funds for sick children
Montréal, Québec, October 19, 2009 – Starting today, Pizza Pizza will be running a week-long fundraising initiative in participating traditional restaurants across Canada to celebrate National Pizza Month. The fundraiser is in support of Children’s Miracle Network and its 14 children’s hospitals.
Throughout the week, Pizza Pizza will be offering medium cheese and pepperoni pizzas for six dollars while donating a portion of the proceeds to the Slices for Smiles Fund, which will then go to Children’s Miracle Network. New this year, Pizza Pizza will be making it easier to contribute to the cause by offering the pizza promo to phone-in orders for pick-up in addition to walk-in customers. Customers ordering online will also have the chance to make a donation by adding on to their order.
“Pizza is all about fun, especially for children,” said Pat Finelli, chief marketing officer for Pizza Pizza. “National Pizza Month gives us a great reason to have even more fun, while contributing to improving the lives of Canadian children.”
Pizza Pizza’s team has raised more than $281,000, through the Slices for Smiles Fund, for children’s charities since the company first introduced the program in October of 2005. This year, in addition to hosting its week-long fundraiser, Pizza Pizza will be selling special balloons at its participating locations as well as offering in-store coin box donations.
“Working with Pizza Pizza is always a pleasure,” says John Hartman, chief international officer for Children’s Miracle Network. “Their team’s continued success is another significant contribution towards making state-of-the-art care, specialized equipment purchases, preventative education programs and pediatric research possible.”
This fundraising activity takes place during the month of October, which was first designated National Pizza Month in 1987 by the U.S. Congress. Pizza Month has been celebrated in Canada since 2007. In addition to raising funds for Children’s Miracle Network, Pizza Pizza will also be kicking off this special month by adding 15 per cent more mozzarella cheese on all their pizzas and hosting a special event with the Montreal Alouettes at a Pizza Pizza location.
