What made you decide to own your own business instead of being an employee of a company?

Well, I always wanted my own business but never had had the opportunity of being introduced to the business world. Thanks to Mark Amery, who introduced me into the business world and made it seem easy, and explained everything so straightforward that after my first couple of months in business, I am run off my feet!

What made you choose GORILLA from the opportunities you looked at?

The Property Maintenance Industry is always growing and people LOVE the Gorilla brand. After looking at many companies, I love how Gorilla doesn’t only focus on the residential side of things, they are very appealing to the Strata and Commercial side as well. They took a seasonal business and made it year round, offering reoccurring revenue throughout the year. The quality of the service that Gorilla provides is heads above their competitors and the brand carries such a strong presence. I do have to say that the best part of Gorilla is the Internal Gorilla Management System. I can run my entire business from my IPad or phone. I log in and everything is there. The IT Technical Team developed this system from the ground up so it is very simple and very user friendly!

Can you describe the support you have received/continue to receive from the (brand) head office team as you got started and on an ongoing basis?

I am very grateful to have chosen Gorilla Property Services because they give you 100% support during the entire process of getting into the business, from Day 1 until the current day. I get emails and calls from Head office daily making sure all is in order and making sure everything is going as I planned. I log on to the Gorilla System and if I have a question, someone is there immediately, love it!

What do you like best about this business?

What I liked the most about Gorilla Property Services is the training and leads/calls provided. They make it straightforward and touch every important point of a business and the services we provide. They took the uncertainty out of everything. The system as a whole is unbelievable.

Has business ownership held any surprises for you?

I was very surprised at the time it took for the phone calls to come in. I chose Sudbury, Ontario as my location which had no prior Gorilla’s. Within the first week of training, I got the chance to actually see the internals of the Marketing Department and how it works. By my 3rd day training, calls were coming in and email leads asking for quotes. By the end of the 10 days, I was receiving calls and was shocked at how ready I was. After 2 months into my Gorilla Franchise, I was looking at hiring part time help.


Has it met or surpassed your expectations, and if so, in what way has it done so?

Again, surpassed my expectations. I didn’t dream of being this busy this quickly. It was overwhelming at first but after a few of my first jobs solo I was ready to rock and roll.

Describe what an ‘average’ day is like for you as a business owner?

I like to have my days planned in advance. I wake up, hop in the truck, grab a coffee and log into my Gorilla System. I look at the email leads and messages sent over from Gorilla Headquarters and head out. The projects vary from a residential home where services are usually window cleaning, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, house washing etc. Or we may be doing larger projects for Strata Clients with the same type of scope. I personally like the Graffiti Removal because it’s a great time filler and can be done early in the morning whenever I like. I love making $300 before I have had my first coffee.

What aspects of the business were particularly important to you when considering this opportunity? (feedback from other owners within the brand, H.O. support, business model, flexibility, growth potential, etc.)?

I was looking for a strong brand, simplicity, growth potential and support. Gorilla nailed all of these.

What are the biggest advantages that (brand) gives you in your business? (eg marketing, negotiating with vendors, support, etc.)

The big two advantages is the brand, support and the marketing. People smile when the Gorilla Mobile drives by, kids wave and it puts a smile on people’s faces. When you are pulling up to a job for a quote, the power behind the Gorilla is unbelievable. The Marketing Department also does an amazing job. Seeing how the number of visits on my Territory Site and how it gets higher every day just in the first month in business was spectacular. Having the Gorilla Headquarters behind me 24-7 is also a huge benefit. It’s like knowing I always have my “Big Brother” there to help me if I need.
